Fellow acupuncturist, Rick Weisbrot, who is working with the tennis players at the U.S. Open, inspired me to host my first ‘Acupuncturist’s Acupuncture‘ session. Last week several acupuncturists came to my office to watch Dr. Carolyn Bengston show us how she would needle specific muscles to release acute tension using the techniques she has gathered during her 23 years of practice. We gathered around the table as she showed us various ways to needle muscles for immediate pain relief in the neck, shoulders, arms, hands, back, legs and feet. We reviewed strategies to relieve migraines and heat stroke, two issues that Rick will need to address for the players as they push themselves both physically and mentally in the late summer heat and humidity.
What an inspiring way to prepare to come back to work after a rejuvenating sabbatical. Mary Hart, who is a licensed acupuncturist and adept at myofascial release, will continue to see clients at my office in the West Village. In the meantime, enjoy these last, and hopefully laziest, days of summer. See you soon!
