We are wrapping up production of the video of me teaching Soaring Crane Qigong: The Five Routines.
I have always wanted to share the original form of this healing martial art that inspired so much change in my life.
When people ask me how I got interested in becoming an acupuncturist I usually give them a shorter version of the following:
I graduated from college with a degree in biology with a focus on pre-medical school studies with the intention of becoming a doctor. Life took me on another unexpected yet circuitous trail: modeling, marriage, photography, motherhood. While living in New York City and working as a fashion portrait photographer, I was intrigued by a class in something called ‘qigong’. I had never heard of it, did not even know how to pronounce the name (chee gong). The description said it used graceful movement and mental focus to prevent and treat disease. I was a “dancer” in that I loved going to dance class almost daily. It helped me stay strong, less stressed, more joyful. I did not have to be convinced that focused movement could heal.
After a few months of practice, I noticed significant changes in my health.
“How does qigong work?” I asked my teachers. The answer was straightforward and inspired me:
“You do not need to know how the exercise works for it to help…but if you do want to understand, you will need to study the theories of Chinese Medicine upon which qigong is based.”
I wanted to know how this exercise helped to stop the wheezing in my chest that woke me up every night. My passion from college was renewed in wanting to help others with their health as I helped myself. I went to acupuncture school in New York City, became a National Board-Certified acupuncturist, and went on to work in clinics and private practice in New York City, Connecticut and now Virginia. I taught many classes in qigong.
This video gives me the ability to reach more people who might benefit from this ancient Chinese healing skill and art.
You will be the first to know when the video is available. I will keep you posted on my plans for teaching as well.
In the meantime, dive deep into the heart of this amazing season! Acupuncture is an awesome support to the demands of spring on our bodies. Contact me if you would like a session.
