In my last year of acupuncture school, a teacher told us to create practices we love by individualizing them according to our unique brand of helping. At the time, it seemed a dream to have an office in my neighborhood where I could walk to work, making my hours not have to fit in with a commute. It did not happen right away but eventually I opened my practice in the West Village where I live, go to yoga, write a monthly column in a neighborhood newspaper, have my favorite places to eat and meet friends, drink cappuccino, even attend church where I go to offer prayers for those I treat and find silence in the middle or end of a day. I try to keep things simple and living locally is a great way to do it as well as to support my neighbors and local businesses. I have even bigger dreams, but that is for future blog posts.
