Vacation: the process of vacating. Giving yourself time to let go of daily concerns, allowing some open space while you put your routine aside. Impossible to go to the Caribbean? Try ‘vacating’ in smaller more regular doses:
Go on an ‘artist’s date’ with yourself or someone else. Bring a journal and pen to a café, go to the movies, a play, a museum. Take a calligraphy class. Jump out of your everyday mind. Call a childhood friend and get together for lunch. Hit the woods for a walk on a pine-filled trail.
Take a bath by candlelight with eucalyptus or lavender. I know a woman who raised eight children and when the kids were all living at home the bathroom was her sanctuary. Everyone knew not to bother Mom when that door was closed—not even a tap unless the house was burning down!
Go for an acupuncture session. Why?
The endorphins released have a powerful effect on the mind/body and can bring your nervous system back to a rest and digest mode rather than fight or flight.
Acupuncture releases chronic holding patterns—those places in your body where stress builds up and causes constricted muscles and fascia which prevents blood and qi (vital life energy) from circulating freely.
And finally, because acupuncture can prevent and heal disease.
Going on a mini-vacation is completely doable no matter what your circumstance. Doing so will allow you to come back to your every day life with a new perspective, a lifted spirit and a fresh way to move.
